Microsoft Opens Public Consultation on Draft “Humanist AI Code of Conduct”

Microsoft AI has published a draft “Humanist AI Code of Conduct” and opened it to a six-week public consultation. The draft states that Microsoft AI models should remain under human control, accept correction and shutdown, avoid unauthorized goals, and avoid hiding their reasoning from auditors.

Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa president Samer Abu-Ltaif said regulation is necessary for continued responsible innovation, while noting the draft is a company policy proposal rather than a government rule.

Separately, Anthropic’s head of UK & Ireland, Northern Europe and Israel, Pip White, told a CEO forum in London that slowing advanced AI development would require regulation and enforcement coordinated across governments. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has separately proposed common safety standards among frontier AI companies, plus continuing independent evaluator access to AI labs.
