Accreditation Restructured: IAF Ceases Operations as Global ACI Takes Over
In a structural change with direct consequences for the ISO 9001:2026 transition, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) — the body that set transition rules for previous major ISO management system revisions — ceased operations on January 1, 2026.
Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) began operations the same day, bringing together the work of the IAF and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
Why it matters: global transition requirements for ISO 9001:2026 will now come from Global ACI together with national accreditation bodies, rather than from the IAF. As of September 2026, Global ACI had not yet published those requirements — which is why transition timelines currently vary by certification body and accreditation arrangement. Certified organizations should watch announcements from Global ACI and their national accreditation body closely.
